2012 Dogwood Regional Fine Art Exhibit

The  2012 Dogwood Regional Fine Art Exhibit was held in the two story gallery spaces of the Emporium Center for the Arts at 100 Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville during the month of April. The beautifully restored building is the anchor for the downtown art scene, and is managed by the Knoxville Arts and Culture Alliance. We had over 497 submissions from 188 artists in 7 states, and 77 Pieces by 68 artists were selected. Our juror this year was Terri Jordan,
the curator of Exhibits at the Customs House Museum, Tennessee’s second largest general museum.  She is also President of the Tennessee Art League’s Board of Directors.  Jordan attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and has spent the last 17 years working with non-profit arts organizations and as a gallery curator.  As an artist, Terri has won numerous awards for her paintings and has been featured in galleries throughout the Southeast and New York.  Her work is in collections in Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, California, New York, North and South Carolina, Texas and England.  In 2003 the University of Georgia purchased four of her paintings for  their collection.
Cash awards totaling $4,500.00 were presented at the exhibit’s Reception on April 6th. Best in Show $2,000.00, $1,000.00 2nd, $500.00 third, two $250.00 Merit awards and one $500.00 award from Fast Frames of Knoxville.

Jennifer Baxter, (l) Dogwood Arts Project Manager, checks out the finished installation with Marie Herrbach, (c) and myself. Marie was my installation partner while she was exhibiting with Dogwood's international Nexus event. She flew over with her piece from France-cheaper than shipping!
Marie cleans the glass after we decide on lighting angles for Sher Fick's fiber wedding dress/straight jacket that was installed in a special gallery directly under the outside sidewalk. Additional light is provided though glass blocks in the sidewalk.
